Well, the Mouth from the South has done it again. This time, he's taken it upon himself to meet with the exiled leaders of the Hamas terrorist organization, in spite of numerous protests and against the rules set forth by the U.S. and Israeli governments. Jimmy Carter says that, "I consider myself immune from such restrictions."
Sure enough, following the unauthorized meeting, a top official in the Hamas' political bureau proudly declared that, "Political isolation by the American administration has begun to crumble."
Huh? Jimmy Carter hasn't been a part of the American administration since Ronald Reagan sent him packing to his peanut farm in Georgia following the 1980 presidential election. That was one of the happiest days of my life. I'm sure it was also the happiest day in the lives of those 50+ American hostages being held in the Iranian embassy for 444 days while Jimmy Carter was president. The hostages were released minutes after Ronald Reagan was sworn in as the new president. Coincidence? I think not.
Even discounting his mishandling of the hostage crisis and the 1980 boycott of the Olympics, Jimmy Carter was the absolute WORST president in my lifetime. People smarter than me have called him the worst president in history. I wouldn't argue. He was a weakling in foreign affairs and helped empower Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.
Since Reagan dispatched him back to the farm, Carter has spread plenty of manure trying to secure his relevance on the world stage. His arrogance reigns supreme. In spite of winning a Nobel Peace Prize, he's been a divisive force within the Democratic party and even within his own religious denomination. In January 2007, fourteen leaders of the Carter Center resigned in protest, following the publication of Jimmy's anti-Israel book and uncompromising comments in support of Islamic terrorists. What took them so long? Jimmy Carter seems to have never met a terrorist or foreign dictator that he didn't like. His interference in N. Korea allowed them to continue their pursuit of nuclear arms, under the cover of a Carter-brokered treaty. How many American lives were lost building the Panama Canal that Jimmy ended up giving away?
But enough about Jimmy, if only for a minute. How has Hamas responded to J.C.'s latest peace proposals? On the first day of their talks, they failed to respond to Mr. Carter's two requests that Hamas halt rocket attacks against Israel. They answered the next day by sending suicide bombers to an Israeli-Gaza border crossing, resulting in the wounding of 13 Israeli soldiers. Later in the day, Hamas talked with Carter about swapping a single captured Israeli Corporal for up to 400 Palestinian prisoners. What a deal that would be!
As of today, Jimmy's still over in the Middle East stirring things up. It's a shame that you and I have to pay taxes to provide the Secret Service and other security forces that have to protect him while he's there. If someone considers the value of a single Israeli soldier to be worth 400 Palestinian prisoners, what kind of bargaining power would these terrorists have if they captured an ex-president, even if he is a virtually worthless ex-president? I'm not sure what the legitimate American administration's response to that scenario might be, but I'm certain we wouldn't leave him over there for 444 days before bringing him home.
