Don Imus the Slimus

Don Imus has done it again. It wasn't enough to lose his CBS job over racially insensitive comments about the Rutgers basketball team. Now, he's trying to justify his latest racially prejudiced remarks about Pacman Jones by saying that he was misunderstood.

In case you missed it, during an ABC radio discussion about the frequent arrests of NFL player Pacman Jones, Imus asked, "What color is he?" When told that Jones was African American, Imus responded by saying, "There you go. Now we know."

In hindsight, Imus is claiming that he felt Jones was being picked on because of his race. Give me a break. This man makes his living by articulating his thoughts into words. Imus should just admit that he's racist and face the consequences. Or, maybe he should add "Reverend" in front of his name to make his racism more acceptable to other racists. That seems to have worked for Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson.

Unfortunately, racism exists in America, and also in every other country in the world. I don't know how we can eradicate it. I just wish that people like Imus, Wright, Sharpton, and Jackson would stop festering the wounds with their love of their own voice and the lining of their own pockets.

I applaud the courage and dignity of men like Bill Cosby and Colin Powell in their public comments against wallowing in racism and their search for meaningful solutions to problems that affect all Americans, whatever their race or creed. Most of all, I miss the inspirational words and character of Martin Luther King. I share his dream of America. I hope you will, too.
