Last night was a time for America to say goodbye to a couple of prominent G’s.
After eight years, George Bush delivered his farewell address to the nation and an hour later, Gil Grissom, played by William Petersen, of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation left the #1 rated TV series after nine years.
It’s safe to say that more people will miss fictional Gil than factual George. Personally, I’ll miss both, even though my wife told me that she would have left me for Grissom a few years ago.
President Bush made many mistakes during his time in office, but it’s indisputable that following the attacks on 9/11 he kept our country safe from further terrorist attacks. The country had grown soft under Bill Clinton, but George gave us our spine back. Under Clinton, the terrorists became bolder and bolder, making 9/11 not only possible, but also probable.
I know that president-elect Obama plans to shut down Guantanamo Bay and restrict the interrogation methods approved under the Bush presidency. I’m not sure that calling terrorists bad names will work, but I guess we’ll see.
I know that Hillary Clinton, forever linked to failed health care reforms during her husband’s presidency, plans to overhaul the state department. Let’s keep our fingers crossed on that one.
I just hope that whatever protection and safety America gained under President Bush isn’t lost forever as we turn all of our collective cheeks over to the terrorists who seek to destroy us. Otherwise, we’ll need to bring back CSI Grissom and invest in a whole lot of body bags.
