U.S. Representative Joe Barton will never be confused for an elected official that looks out for the best interest of his constituents. He was against repealing the Wright Amendment, even though it would lead to lower airfares for millions of Texas travelers. He was against funding for children with autism. He's a champion of power companies building as many dirty coal-burning plants in the state of Texas as possible because he thinks global warming is malarkey. He's against extending the Digital TV Transition deadline, even though the government coupon program wasn't properly funded and millions of homes could go dark on February 17 without a little help from the Bailout Kings in Washington.
Barton is always on the side of big business, instead of Joe Taxpayer. Big business lines his pockets. As Texas shifts to a more Democratic state, Barton may find that it's time to hang up those goofy glasses that have distorted his vision after several decades in public office. Because the one thing Joe Barton seems to be against, more than anything else, is corporate responsibility.
