Last Friday I went to a high school football playoff game with my brother Darrell and good friend Mike Farris. The game pitted two unbeaten teams, defending 5A Texas state champion Euless Trinity against Coppell. The game was played at a neutral site and I had to drive about 50 miles on Wednesday to pre-purchase four tickets (one of our group couldn’t make it at the last minute) because the schools weren’t selling any tickets at the game.
It was an incredible game. Coppell took an early lead and scored every time they had the football. Euless Trinity took their first lead, and a 41-40 win, with a touchdown scored with only two seconds left on the clock. A miracle finish to a great game.
However, the game also had a miracle beginning. As my group of three approached the stadium entrance, I was approached by a young teenage boy who wanted to know where to buy his ticket. I explained that there weren’t any tickets for sale that night because the game was already sold out through pre-purchases. And then I reached into my wallet and handed him my fourth ticket. How big a miracle is it when a youngster approaches a complete stranger about where to buy a ticket – and that stranger may be the only person in the entire 12,600-seat stadium who actually has an extra ticket? When he asked how much he owed me, I couldn’t dilute God’s miracle by taking anything for it.
Now I need to ask my friends and family to pray for another miracle. My wife and I noticed that our youngest dog, Riley, who will be three on Wednesday, wasn’t eating or drinking anything yesterday so we took him to the vet. Riley was severely anemic and the vet wasn’t quite sure why. It could be an infection, but it could also be a disease that causes his immune system to attack his oxygen-carrying red blood cells. If it’s the latter, it can be treated but the typical prognosis carries only a 40-60% mortality rate.
We have to take Riley back to the vet at 5 o’clock today, so please join us in praying for his complete healing. Thanks.
