Here’s a recap of the many votes cast in 2010:
Jennifer Grey, who played “Baby” in the movie Dirty Dancing, should have trampled real-life teenage Baby-Mama Bristol Palin in the flawed ABC reality series Dancing With The Stars. The votes came down to the wire in the last week, despite the fact that Bristol had no dancing talent. Don’t worry about Bristol though; she managed to purchase a $200K home in Phoenix , even without support from the deadbeat dad of her illegitimate child.
On the flip side, Bristol ’s ex-governor mother Sarah claims she has a legitimate shot at knocking off Barack Obama in the 2012 race for president. When it comes to quit-in-mid-term governor Palin, the terms “shot” and knocking off” sometimes take on a more ominous tone than they might from less divisive candidates.
From the ice fields of Alaska to the oil fields of Texas , Governor Rick Perry will never resign in mid-term, no matter how many times people plead with him to do so. Perry claims he has no interest in running for president, presumably content to run for governor as many times as it takes to reward all of his many friends with cushy political appointments or free taxpayer money from the state. In spite of his constant protests to the contrary, many people believe Perry is positioning himself for a Perry/Palin or Palin/Perry presidential ticket in 2012. Did the ancient Mayans predict this presidential pairing? Is this the reason they predicted the world would come to an end shortly after the 2012 elections?
Nancy Pelosi correctly predicted that some Democrats would lose their seats in the House of Representatives over the unpopular Healthcare Bill. She proudly proclaimed that they could learn what was in the bill after they passed the massive legislation. Sure enough, the Democrats passed the bill and promptly suffered historic losses in the 2010 elections.
Losing her position as Speaker of the House after the election, Pelosi still pleaded with the battered Democrats left in the House to elect her as their Minority Leader. Surprisingly, they did. I suppose it just goes to show what slim pickin’s there are in the Democratic House.
There were a few good Democrats who lost their bids for reelection in 2010, but some of the most corrupt managed to hang onto their seats and solidify the slim pickin’s for House Minority Leader. How would it look if the House Democrats had elected Charles Rangel as the Minority Leader, after he failed to report all of his income or pay all of his income taxes, even though he was on the committee responsible for writing tax laws for years? How would it look if the House Democrats had elected Maxine Waters as the Minority Leader, after she steered taxpayer bailout money to the bank where her husband served on the board of directors? How would it look if the House Democrats had elected Eddie Bernice Johnson as the Minority Leader, after she secretly steered thousands of dollars in scholarship money from the Black Congressional Caucus to her relatives, in violation of the rules for the scholarship program? Not an ounce of contrition among these ethically challenged Democrats, but the voters continue to send them to Washington .
At this point, I’m not sure if it’s a scarier thought that the world could end in 2010, or that it might not . . .
