Harbingers of Hate

The most perverted congregation-masquerading-as-a-church in the United States today has to be the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas.  In truth, they have no affiliation with any recognized Baptist organizations, and even their self-reference to themselves as a church is a lie fermented in the pits of Hell by Westboro’s founder and leader, Fred Phelps. Westboro Baptist Church may be the least diverse church in America since most of the homophobic members are related to Fred Phelps.

While most legitimate churches spread the gospel, Westboro Baptist spends most of its time and energy picketing funerals and other public events.  Their picket signs proclaim God’s vengeance on America for a host of sins, but mostly for homosexuality.  And these wicked demons from Topeka see homosexuality everywhere.  They especially love to bring their flag-burning and hateful pickets to the funerals of our American soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan.  Can you imagine burying your son or daughter while these hellhounds preach their message of lies and hate nearby?     

Westboro Baptist has won several lawsuits and even appeared before the Supreme Court to argue their rights to spread their perverted message of hate and lies, based on their rights to Freedom of Speech.  They also recently lost a huge lawsuit brought by the father of one of their deceased targets.  I can only hope that their appeal backfires and only serves to increase the size of the judgment against them.

Westboro’s latest target is 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green, one of several fatalities at the hands of a deranged gunman outside a Safeway store in Tucson last week.  Westboro quickly promised to bring their forces of hate to picket Christina’s funeral.  Just as quickly, Arizona passed a law barring demonstrations within 300 feet of any funeral service in the state, effective immediately.  While I think 300 miles would be a better buffer zone, at least the Green family might be spared some of the typical anguish perpetrated by these Warlocks of Westboro.

I think the members of Westboro Baptist Church would be surprised at some of the people who are going to make it to Heaven without them.  They’ll never know either, since they’re not likely to have any members make that particular trip, and they’ll be much too busy fanning the flames of Hell to send one last picket up to the celestial gates. 

I also believe there’s going to be a special place in Hell for Fred Phelps and his followers.  I’m hoping he’ll be personal pit-mates with the biggest, meanest homosexual in Hell, but I have to apologize in advance to the biggest, meanest homosexual in Hell because no matter what sin actually condemned him to Hell, his Hell will be far worse than the one I’m wishing for Fred Phelps since Fred Phelps will be his eternal pit-mate too.
